The tech world and family blogging community are mourning the loss of a beloved member.
Justin Bigham, CEO of software company Opiniion and a popular family blogger died on Oct. 5, following a fall in Utah’s Zion National Park, his company confirmed. He was 40.
“The hardest thing to share with others is loss. No words feel worthy, no sentiment enough. Today is no exception,” the Utah-based organization shared on in a statement posted to Opiniion’s Instagram Oct 7. “Doing what he loved this weekend, @justindbingham, our CEO, was involved in a canyoneering incident that, despite the quick responses of various emergency teams, resulted in his untimely passing.”
“At Opiniion, Justin was more than just our CEO. He was a friend, a mentor, an example of hard work and above all, he was family,” the statement continued. “Justin knew each of us by name and made a point when he came into the office to say hello to everyone individually, every single day. We never doubted his love for us and for those with whom he was associated. We will always remember his optimism, his kindness, and the hard work that brought Opiniion to where it is today. With love and a heavy heart, Opiniion, Inc.”
According to NBC affiliate KSLTV, citing local officials, Justin was with a group of climbers and was following a permitted itinerary. While repealing near the exit of Heaps Canyon over the weekend, at approximately 6 p.m. he fell between 150-200 ft.
The officials also told the outlet that Justin was then transported by the Utah Public Safety helicopter to a nearby campground where he was then transferred to a Life Flight Helicopter. It was on the Life Flight while he was receiving additional care, he died before making it to the hospital.
Justin and his wife, Lindsay were also known for their family YouTube channel, “Our Life in Holland.” , where they documented life with their children, Turin, Ashton, Landon and Ava Bingham. Part of their story was their son Landon’s journey living with cerebral palsy.
According to the website, the family's YouTube name was inspired by the story of a plane full of passengers who found the beauty in the unplanned, after their flight to Italy was diverted to Holland.
The about me section notes, "When I talk about our "Life in Holland" I mean it in a figurative sense."
“We are Justin and Lindsay. This is our family of six. We have 3 boys and a girl who are everything to us. We love to have fun and adventure as a family,” the about section on their website reads. “We strive to find joy in the little things, the unexpected beauties in a place we like to call Holland. We are determined to make the best of things, remember what's important, love deeply, learn from our mistakes and try to smile through it all. We hope to share a piece of our family's journey with you.”
Lindsay has yet to speak out about Justin’s death, Opiniion requested privacy on her behalf.
“We kindly ask for privacy and understanding for Justin’s family during this difficult time,” a note on the Opiniion website asks. “We are committed to ensuring that Justin’s legacy lives on through the work we do and the relationships we continue to build.”
