Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo aren’t in Oz anymore.
The Wicked costars arrived at the Opening Ceremony for the 2024 Olympics in Paris on July 26. And fans may feel like they've been changed for good once they see their chic outfits.
Ariana rocked a pink dress with a pleated skirt and bow detailing on the red carpet—finishing off a look Glinda surely would love with a hair ribbon and gloves. Meanwhile, Cynthia dazzled in a green dress and matching hat that were so good they could have made Elphaba even more green with envy.
Still, they insisted they didn’t plan to coordinate.
“We did not. We never do this, and it always happens” Ariana joked to NBC, with Cynthia adding, it just “happens by accident.”
And as the Olympians display brains, heart and courage throughout the Games, the Grammy winners are excited to cheer them on.
“This is probably the first Olympics I’ve ever been able to attend in-person,” Cynthia continued. “It’s been a bit of a dream to do this and to do it in Paris is really special, too.”
In terms of the event that’s most popular in their eyes?
“We’re so excited for the women’s gymnastics,” Ariana shared, adding they’re looking forward to Simone Biles’ routine. “We were, like, counting down.”
In addition, Cynthia said she couldn’t wait to root on Sha'Carri Richardson in track and field. And now that the Olympics are underway, they won’t have to hold out for too much longer to see which athletes take home a medal.
But for fans counting down until Wicked’s release, well they’ll have to be a bit more patient. The first chapter premieres Nov. 22 while the second won’t be released until 2025.
Still, the singers dropped some hints about what moviegoers can expect.
“I think they have a lot to look forward to,” Ariana told the outlet. “I think they’re definitely going to laugh and cry and have their hearts really moved.”
Agreed Cynthia, “I think it’s one of those pieces it’s surprisingly moving. Well, not surprising to us, but I think people will be pleasantly surprised by how much they can connect with it and how moving it can be and how much they connect with these two women and the other characters who are existing in that beautiful world.”
